Latest kitchen trends 2021

More and more kitchens are becoming a sociable space where to make life and where gastronomy and company converge. Kitchens are no longer what they used to be and now the trend is to go for simplicity, beauty and functionality.

We are looking for large spaces that can accommodate all kinds of technology, with plenty of natural light and that give us a feeling of spaciousness and comfort. A room that we can customize as much or more than the bedroom. So let's go there, what are going to be the latest kitchen trends 2021 for this year?

Until recently we were not aware of all that a space as important as the kitchen could offer us. Now, however, we have learned that it can serve as a living room, an office, a conference room... That is why the fundamental trend of the year will be to turn kitchens into multitasking and multifunctional spaces where we can not only cook, but also gather around the countertop.

Islands and peninsulas (although especially the former) will continue to be a basic request for designing a kitchen. But this year we will be looking for clean islands, without sinks or glass-ceramic hobs, islands that act as tables.

Now we bet more on large kitchens completely open, what is popularly known as American kitchens. Spaces that open to the other rooms and merge in decoration with them. They can be L-shaped kitchens, U-shaped kitchens or single-wall kitchens.

On the other hand, we have already assumed that appliances that are in sight are not a good idea. Visually it is preferable that these are hidden or fully integrated, through paneling of the same material as the rest of the kitchen, to achieve a space of clean, straight lines and in line with the rest of the space. A space that we tend to expand more and more, as we look for kitchens with large storage capacity.

And it is that the spaces tend more and more to a Mediterranean style with brick walls and exposed beams. But these are not the only novelties in terms of materials. This 2021 we will bet on organic materials and natural fabrics. Stone and quartzite will be the most important finishes for countertops. Without losing track, of course, quartz, melanin and porcelain.

What we will leave behind this year are glossy finishes as the trend will be for clean, sharp (not as wide as in previous years) and minimalist surfaces.

And here, the big question: what color should I put the kitchen? Well, this year you will be spoilt for choice. White continues to be the star color because of its brightness and its sense of elegance. It is perhaps the best option because it is easy to combine with other colors and materials.

For example, a kitchen with white countertops with various details in wood material would be one of the cleanest combinations. Although for timeless gray kitchens: they never go out of style and bring a soft and homey style at the same time.

But, for this 2021, we can say that black is back. Although we usually associate it with a dark and boring color, the truth is that it brings a very sophisticated style, even more so if we combine it with a lighter color like beige, gray or wood itself. If you dare to have a black kitchen think that this decoration needs a lot of natural light and a very good lighting that makes it look like an elegant kitchen and not gloomy.

But all this is meaningless if we do not know how we are going to decorate the walls and floors. As in the rest of the house, the walls should be smooth and, in the case of kitchens, the trend will be decorative fronts. Fronts that attract attention but at the same time contrast with the countertop and furniture. As always, gray and straight lines are the preferred patterns for this purpose. Likewise, the floor will be a continuation of the living room, if there is an open kitchen.

This means that rustic wood will be the flooring of choice, as one of the big trends of 2021, both for kitchens and other rooms, is the combination of eco-friendly materials with those that are not.
